I’m a 28 year-old Type 1 diabetic in Melbourne, Australia and was diagnosed at four years of age. My partner and I have followed the development of a new treatment called Afrezza. We were excited when it finally was approved in the USA – however, more than 12 months have past and it is seemingly being ignored by endocrinologists and almost kept secret by its distributor, Sanofi. In the same time frame, a remarkable glucose monitor went on sale in Europe, the FreeStyle Libre, yet availability is still highly constrained there.
I have obtained Afrezza, the FreeStyle Libre and Tresiba at my own (very high) expense. This project aims to methodically test these new treatments to see how they work in the real world, and see if they can work together transform the daily life of Type 1 diabetics.
Testing will be comprehensive, and practical. There is a complete absence of information on how to get the most out of Afrezza, and I hope the information the information that will be compiled on this site will be useful to many people.
Please consider donating to continue the supply of Afrezza and sensors to help me build this resource. If we can build awareness, hopefully the distributor will decide to release make this treatment available to Australians (there are currently no plans).
